Loaned Executive Program
A Great Way to Give and Receive

A Loaned Executive (LE) is a volunteer who is "loaned" to United Way on a part-time or full-time basis during the campaign. The LEs maximize staff and volunteer efforts while maintaining low fundraising costs during the campaign. In return, United Way provides a unique management program that develops sales and executive leadership skills and an understanding of community organization.

As an individual you can help us by volunteering to be a Loaned Executive. With more people retiring early, the Loaned Executive Program is an excellent way to stay involved in your community.

As a business, you can help us by "loaning" one of your staff on a full or part time basis. Talk to us about the details. If you can't "loan" a person to us, perhaps you would be able to sponsor a volunteer who will work as a loaned executive.

For more information about the Loaned Executive program, download the brochure, or contact United Way's Resource Development Department:

You may think volunteering...

You may think volunteering only means cleaning up, planting trees, or working in a soup kitchen. But many nonprofits need professional services, such as writing a business plan, doing their books, developing a Web site, board governance or software training. UWGN offers you a variety of ways to get involved and make an impact.

Five Things You Can Do

1. Donate your newspaper subscription to a local school when you go on vacation.
2. Take the children in your life to a local museum, exhibit or play.
3. Donate new or gently used professional clothing to an organization assisting individuals in seeking employment.
4. Purchase personal care items such as deodorant, toothbrushes and soap and drop them off at the local homeless shelter.
5. Serve as a greeter at a free tax preparation community coalition site to help low-income families acquire up to thousands of dollars in earned income tax credits.

Loaned Executive Stories

My Loaned Executive Experience - Jennifer Schelly, BAE Systems

Being a loaned executive to United Way is an eye-opening experience. Although I knew that health and human service needs existed in Greater Nashua, I didn't really understand the extent of situation until I visited some of the local agencies as a United Way Loaned Executive. I learned how United Way-funded programs at local agencies help address local needs. The Loaned Executive position for me is a very rewarding one because I know that the funds I help raise – especially those directed to the General Fund -- go where the needs are greatest in our area.

Serving as a Loaned Executive also helps me hone my public speaking, community organization, and sales skills, as well as my knowledge and understanding of the community. Most importantly, however, I know that my work is helping United Way improve people's lives.
