Planning community-wide food drive for Saturday, May 2nd

In support of 12 different local food pantries and animal shelters, United Way of Greater Nashua is teaming up with 21 different local grocery stores for a food drive. The event takes place this Saturday between 9 am and 2 pm. During this time, shoppers at these stores can purchase an item or two from a list, which will be provided at the store, for donation. All of the items collected, which are non-perishable, will be used to stock local pantry shelves throughout the 11 Southern New Hampshire communities of Greater Nashua. According to United Way President Mike Apfelberg, “We’ve teamed up with some great local grocery stores to see what we can do to help meet the need for increased food resources at this time. Most of the stores are your local mom and pop stores, so we’re hoping it’s also great for local business as they struggle to stay afloat. We’ve even included several animal related nonprofits as recipients, since they are also struggling with donations. As always, we are so proud of our many volunteers, who are making this and so much else possible.” This weekend, there will be over 50 volunteers supporting this effort! United Way is hoping for a big turnout.
