Over the Edge Rappelling Fundraiser
NASHUA – If you were on Elm Street in Manchester on June 27th you may have seen a strange sight; people climbing down the side of the 24 story Brady Sullivan Plaza at 1000 Elm Street. Despite the recent heavy rain and thunderstorms, the supporters and staff of 30 New Hampshire nonprofits were fortunate to have clear weather to rappel down the building and collaboratively raise money for their individual causes.
The large-scale fundraiser, called “Over the Edge” is managed by United Way of Greater Nashua and supported by Granite United Way and Brady Sullivan Properties.
United Way has been orchestrating the event at the second tallest building in the state since 2017, with no event occurring in 2020. In prior years the Daniel Webster Council Boy Scouts managed the project. In the 6 years United Way has managed the event, a total of $993K has been raised.
The 30 participating nonprofit’s teams of supporters, staff, and volunteers each raised money for their own nonprofit. 96 people participated in the event, raising a total of $165,860. The Children’s Dyslexia Center was the nonprofit raising the highest amount at over $20,000.
Participants included individuals with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. Those rappelling included teens, an 83-year-old rappeler, people with disabilities such as loss of sight and quadriplegia, and veterans experiencing PTSD.
Sponsors for this event include Boston Billiard Club and Casino, Bar Harbor Bank and Trust, Clarion Inn Nashua, Heartstop Media, Greenleaf Photography, Saint-Gobain, Delta Dental, Fully Promoted of Southern New Hampshire, Eaton Berube Insurance, Union Leader, Center for Physical Therapy and Exercise, AmeriHealth Caritas, and EPrint Inc.
